Ranchers life..

The first photo is a picture of my grandpa on the ranch at age 11

This photo was taken summer of 2015. Grandpa age 78

I take no credit for either one of theses photos! I just really like them and they give you an idea of my grandpa and the history of our ranch.

When talking in class about the Bundy incident that is still on going... It brings a lot to mind of being a daughter and granddaughter of a ranching family.
My grandpa is probably the hardest working man I know. My whole life my grandpa has worked everyday to make a living. His property, animals, and family are his life. My grandpa has been raised on a ranch since he was born. That’s the only way he knows how to live.
My grandpa came onto the Ranch that he now owns in 1945. Rock Art Ranch (the name of our ranch) was part of the vast holdings of the Aztec Land and Hashkife Cattle Company, which is the largest cattle company in the state of Arizona. They ran 2 million acres 60,000 head of cattle.
When the Railroad ran out of money the government gave the railroad every other section for 20 miles checker boarded on each side of the Colorado River. The railroad got enough money to build the railroad on into California. The sections at the time were sold for twenty-five cents an acre. There’s a lot of history behind the land that we live on. My family currently has five thousand acres running 80 head of cattle. Yes we do pay taxes on the land and yes the government does make their monthly stop to the Ranch.  When talking a little bit to my grandpa about the Bundy issue and his opinion on it, my grandpa said he couldn’t say the Bundy’s were right or wrong. My grandpa has a pretty good relation with the three men that come to visit our ranch every month. They respect my grandpa and my family very much. At times my grandpa would love to tell them to get off our property and don’t come back, but my grandpa said to me “Tori, It isn’t worth the fight.”

The government will always have the higher authority. More laws and more rules will always be made and unfortunately there not much we can do about it.

  1. Hi Lady T,
I really appreciate you writing more on the issue, especially with your first-hand experiences. You're grandpa is adorable, thanks for posting the pictures side-by-side. I think it's great that you followed up the original conversation that started in class with this.
    Thanks again, Lady T.
